As the reduction, or the complete interruption of the blood supply of the testicles can cause irreversible damage to it (nekrosis, atrophy, hemorrahgic infarction), emergency treatment is required. The time frame in which the testicle can be saved is about 4 hours. In surgery, the testicle is exposed and de-twisted by a scrotal incision, in infants by an inguinal incision. The contralateral testicle should be fixated on the scrotum for prophylaxis (Orchidopexy).
