Dorsal view of a human foot with its joints and bones. The socket, consisting of tibia and fibula, articulates with the trochlae tali of the anklebone (talus,see protruding bone), the talocrural joint (lat. crus = lower leg). The lower ankle joint is subdivided into an anterior and posterior ankle joint. The posterior one consists of talus and calcaneus (subtalar joint), the anterior one consists of talus, calcaneus, and navicular bone (talocalcaneonavicular joint). Other foot bones: Cuboid bone, cuneiform bone, metatarsal bones, proximal, medial, and distal phalanges.
