Cross-section of the female breast
The female breast consists of glandular and fatty tissue. It`s located on the major and minor pectoral muscles and is supported by the pectineal (Cooper`s) ligament. The fatty tissue forms the shape and soft consistence of the breast. The glandular tissue contains apocrine glands, which, especially during pregnancy, produce milk and transport it to the mamilla through a system of ducts.
