Human pancreas
The pancreas is a glandular organ, at the height of the 2. lumbar vertebra, adjoining the descending part of the duodenum. The pancreas is a secondary retroperitoneal organ, meaning that it was originally covered by peritoneum, but during its development, the back surface coalesced with the abdominal wall.
