Lumpectomy is a surgical procedure that preserves the breast in case of a mammary carcinoma to remove (smaller) tumors. Only the tumor and the surrounding tissue (1-2 cm area) are cut off, a quadrant on top. Hereby, electrical cautery knives should not be used, since they can exacerbate the pathological examination.
