An edema is liquid leaving the circulation and accumulating in the interstitial. In everyday clinic practice, edema are mainly liquid accumulations in the subcutis and in certain organs such as the lung (lung edema). Edema can be caused by organs (disturbance of the cardiovascular system, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract etc.) or by hormones, medicine and nutrition.
