Illustration of an endoscopic examination: During a coloscopy (endoscopy, right), the mucosa of the intestine is evaluated with a camera and tissue samples (biopsies) are taken. The camera tube (endoscope) is inserted via the anus into the rectum, colon up to the small intestine. It serves to evaluate tissue changes like tumors/cancer. The coloscopy is offered as a preventive check-up in Germany.
