Necrosis means the death of a cell due to demolition of the structure, e.g. after mechanical stress, contact to toxins, hypoxia, hypothermia of infections. Necrosis leads to damage of the membranes and subsequent release of the contents of the cell into the surrounding, causing an inflammation.Some authors proposed to replace the term necrosis, which has a more pathological meaning, with the term accidental cell death.
