Hepatic fibrosis is a non specific reaction to chronic damage. The magnitude of fibrosis correlates with the duration of the disease. Variable stages of the disease can be differentiated by microscopic criteria. Fibrosis not always results in cirrhosis.It usually starts with necrosis of the hepatocytes. Sonographically, liver fibrosis is usually referred to as diffuse parenchymal liver disease, especially if the diagnosis Cirrhosis can not be made.
