Fatty liver disease (FLD, hepatic steatosis).Ultrasound of the liver shows increased echogenity of the liver compared to the right kidney. In FLD, the amount of fat in liver cells is increased. This leads to increased size and weight of the liver and a yellow change of colour. FLD is one of the most common liver diseases in western countries. Diagnosis of FLD can be made with the help of ultrasound examination. Here, a large and hyperechogenic liver with enongated intrahepatic bile ducts is found, but no sign sof liver cirrhosis, like nodules or portal hypertension.
