Cortisone

Therapeutic corticosteroids have the same effect as the body`s own hormone cortisol, they are antiinflammatory, immunosuppressive, and relevant for metabolism. Depending on the dosage form, the same supplied amount can have a much higher effect. Apart from their use against inflammatory diseases and for immunosuppression, they are primarily used in dermatology as locally applied cremes and balms with a percentage of glucocorticoids. Corticosteroids nowadays occupy an important place in nearly all medical disciplines, but they should only be prescribed if there is a really high indication, due to the side effects (infection risk, hypotrophy of connective and supporting tissue, Cushing symptomes).
