Blood-brain barrier
The brain is surrounded by cerebrospinal liquor inside and outside. The exchange of substances between blood and brain (liquor) is - apart from CO2, O2, H2O - restricted by the blood-brain or blood-liquor barrier. Some substances can pass due to special mechanisms, some can`t, which is important for giving medications.
