Sepsis (colloquially wrong: blood intoxication). A sepsis is the pathological and fatal reaction of an organism to an uncontrollable infection, that is based on bacteria, more seldom fungi, viruses or parasites spreading from a local, infectious focus (e.g. wound) through the blood circulation all over the body. Consequently, massive disorders of complex body functions such as circulatory failure, problems of coagulation, kidney functions and others take place.
