Inner ear
The inner ear of the human ear consists of the cochlea and the vestibular organ, the semicircular ducts (osseous labyrinht, contains the organ of Corti). It is inside the petrous bone (petrous part of temporal bone). The nerve fibers of the auditory organ (auditory / cochlear nerve) and of the vestibular organ unite with each other to form the vestibulocochlear nerve, the cranial nerve VIII. The ear is connected with the oral cavity via the eustachian tube, which is important for pressure equalization (swallowing due to pressure change or open mouth in case of high pressure impact of the air).
