This illustration shows the hypothalamic-pituitary hormone transport system. The pituitary gland is connected to the hypothalamus by the infundibular stalk so that they form a funtional unit.
The hypothalamus directs the secretion of the anterior pituitary hormones ((H)GH, CRH, TSH, Lipotropin, FSH, LH, PRL) via releasing hormones and inhibiting hormons. The posterior pituitary stores and releases hypothalamic hormoes speichert (Oxytocin, Vasopressin).
