Tetanus is an infectious disease that is caused by infection of a wound with the germ clostridium tetani, that produces tetanus toxin, which causes spasticities of the musculature. A common symptom is the characteristic trismus, where an increased tonus of the mastication muscles causes a myogenic lockjaw.
