The early summer meningoencephalitis is an infectious disease caused by the ESME virus. This virus has to subtypes that occurr in different endemic areas (Central Europe, Sibiria, South East Asia). It`s transmitted via a tick bite, the tick serves as a vector. The reservoir of the virus are mainly small rodents, hedgehogs, and sheep. A vaccination is possible.
