Retinal layers
This schematic illustration shows the structure of the retina with its rods and cones. From right to left, the first layer is the pigment epithelium, then the neuroepithelium with rods and cones, followed by the retinal ganglionic layer with bipolar ganglion cells, horizontal cells, radiar fibers, and amacrine cells. Finally, the ganglionic layer of the optic nerve with the multipolar cells, whose axons pass through the nerve fiber layer.
