The influenza virus, luminal on top left in the illustration, is transmitted via droplet infection. The viruses get to the mucosa, where they cause an inflammatory reaction. The endogenous immune defense (antibodies) is activated. Because influenza viruses are very mutable, the virus often isn`t known to the body, the person becomes ill.
