Femur
The illustration shows the corpus femoris of the human thigh bone from medial and frontal. The femur is the strongest human long bone. The caput, covered with cartilage, is part of the hip joint. The major trochanter is visible, where the gluteal muscles insert (top). The caudal end of the femur are the two joint surfaces towards the tibia, which are called lateral and medial condyle. Their margins have smaller protuberances, the epicondyles.
