The intervertebral disc is an articular disc between elements of the spine. It consists of an outer fibrocartilage ring and a softer core, the pulpous nucleus. A layer of hyaline cartilage protects from the top and from the bottom. The pulpous nucleus can pass the fibre ring hernialike which is called prolapse. Depending on prolapse direction and vertebra height this leads to symptoms such as pain, missing reflexes and paresis.
