Increasing The Productivity of Your Front-Office Staff
Your office manager and staff up at the front have a lot they are juggling – from in-office patient interactions, to scheduling, billing, filling, etc – these team members are responsible for a large part of how your practice operates. Here are some gut-check questions to ask regarding your office staff:
• What technology do you have in place for your staff to use? How many different systems are required for them to do their job? So much time is often wasted in the use of technology that is meant to make people more efficient. Understanding what you need accomplished and comparing that to the programs you have in place can help you determine if you have any waste or if there is an opportunity to consolidate technology.
• Another important part of the technology question is, do you ensure all your staff are trained and qualified to use these systems and programs? Making sure multiple – if not all – staff members are confident using your systems will allow for greater efficiency when dealing with patients and unexpected scenarios (absences, emergencies, peak times, etc.).
• How versed are your front-office employees with dentistry and dental procedures?
• How do you divide up the business-related tasks such as scheduling, billing, patient updates, communications, etc.? How many individuals to you have on your team handling these items?
