Secondary follicle, human egg cell
A human egg cell (oocyte) passes through the following stages of development: Primordial follicle, primary follicle, secondary follicle, tertiary follicle, and Graafian follicle. The oocyte that`s called secondary follicle is surrounded by stratified cuboidal epithelium (follicular epithelium, see pink). This epithelium is separated from the oocyte by the zona pellucida (purple), a layer with lots of glycoproteins. Another layer on the epithelial cells is the lamina basalis (ocher).
