A skull with four holes caused by trepanation. Trepanation describes surgical procedures where holes are bored into a human skull. This kind of procedure was already performed thousands of years ago in order to perform a ritual or treat dieseaes. It is visible that these holes have begun to heal, proving that this procedure didn't always end fatally. The pictured skull was discovered in 1958 in a grave in Jericho.
