Macroscopically the stem of the pituitary gland = Infundibulum, the anterior pituitary (adenohypophysis), the posterior pituitary (neurohypophysis) are visible. In the upper area there are magnocellular and parvocellular neuroendocrine nuclei of the hypothalamus.There is also a dense network of capillaries and the portal vein of the anterior pituitary. The piuitary gland produces tropines, non-glandotropic hormones, ADH (=AVP) and oxytocin. They affect further gands and target cells.
