Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is caused by an infection with the TBE-virus. The virus has three subtypes which are endemic in different regions (central europe, siberia, south east asia). The virus is trasmitted via a tick bite. The tick is the vector. The viral reservoir are small rodents, hedgehogs and sheep. Immunisation is possible.
