Illustration of the human eye ball and it's anatomy in a lateral view, sectioned. The cloudy lens with the cataract is visible.
The cataract is characterized by a loss of transparency of the lens and/or its capsula.
The lens divides the anterior from the posterior chambre of the eye and refracts the light befor it impacts the retina. Its maxima refractive power is about 15 dioptres.
A clouding of the lens can be congenital or aquired (senile cataract).
