Therapeutic schemes in cancer: neoadjuvant describes a chemotherapy before surgery e.g. to reduce the tumor. Adjuvant describes chemotherapy after surgery to remove possible remaining malign cells. A palliative chemo does not aim to heal but to elongate live and reduce symptoms.
