Description: Differential interference contrast microscopy of the tintinnid ciliate of the marine plankton, Petalotricha ampulla. This preserved specimen (Lugol's fixed) was caught with its cilia fully extended. It is about 100 microns long. Honorable Mention, 2011 Olympus BioScapes Digital Imaging Competition®.
