Chancre, developing at the entry site of the pathogen, is a distinctive sign of the primary stage of syphilis. It is a painless ulceration with an indurated edge, app. 2 cm in diameter, usually healing within 3-7 weeks under scar formation.
Subsequently to chancre formation, regional lymphnode is swelling. After the healing of the chancre, this swelling remains even for a longer time. The combination of chancre and swelling of the regional lymph node is called primary complex.Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
