Along with the uncomfortable symptoms, a chronic reflux-esophagitis carries a high risk for the development of a Barrett’s esophagus.
This refers to a constant contact of stomach acid and a structural remodelling of the squamous epithelium of the mucosa of the esophagus to a cylindric epithelium, much like the one that exist in the stomach.
