Fokal low fat density can lead to false diagnosis of a malignoma, since these areas are hard to distinguish in sonography. The sonographic effect is based on a decrease of ultrasound reflection in areas with less fat contents in the liver parenchyma. A fokal low fat density is often found around the gall bladder and should result in additional diagnostics (contrast media sonography, CT-scan) or sonographic control.
