Liver - Central vein - silvering
In histological sections, small isles of connective tissue, the periportal regions, can be found enclosed by three liver lobules. They comprise the feeding blood vessels, it is branches of the Arteria hepatica propria and the portal vein, and the intrahepatic bile ducts. Together they form the so-called Glisson-triad.
Macroscopically, the liver can be divided into 4 lobes:
