Fractures of the clavicula are treated surgically in case of dislocated fractures that pose a risk of penetration. The preferred method is a combined plate osteosynthesis with tension bolt osteosynthesis.

The fracture usually heals with this treatment. Explantation of the metal pieces should occur after about 2 years.
