The detail of the three fibers supporting a basal body. A striated kinetodesmal fiber extends anteriorly from the basal body, a postciliary microtubular ribbon extends posteriorly and a transverse microtubular ribbon extends to the right of the anterior-posterior axis of the row of basal bodies. Basal bodies are composed of 9 triplet fibers each set at a tangent to the cylinder of the long axis of the bb. TEM taken on 3/4/69 by R. Allen with Philips 300 operating at 60kV. Neg. 39,900X. Bar = 0.25?m. A print of the negative was scanned and processed in Photoshop. This image is best used for qualitative analysis. A high resolution image (CIL:7663) is available for quantitative analysis. Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections prepared at approximately 75nm.
