The further cranial and continuing upwards into the mesencephalon (midbrain) the more the distribution changes.Generally this distribution continues up to the diencephalon.
Embryologically the distribution existed along the entire neural tube, but in the development of di- and telencephalon it is modified so much as to be no longer recognizable. Especially the motoric parts are missing.
