Preparation of an aneurysm of the ascending aorta. The aorta is divided into the ascending aorta (Aorta ascendens), the aortic arch, the descending aorta (Aorta descendens), and the abdominal aorta. The latter is divided into sections above the renal artery (A. suprarenalis), respectively, under the renal artery (A. infrarenalis). For surgical technical reasons, the parts distal of the origin of the left subclavian artery to the abdomen are called thoraco-abdominal aorta, because this is a common site of dilataion (aneurysm) formation.
