The cerebellum is located in the posterior cranial fossa and is bordered by the tentorium of cerebellum and the cerebrum. Between both symmetrical cerebellar hemispheres there is the falx cerebelli. The cerebellum is bordered by the medulla oblongata and the pons and builds the roof of the fourth ventricle.Between cerebellum and medulla oblongata there is a cerebellomedullary cisterna (cisterna magna) which is clinically very important as liquor can be taken from here for making further diagnosis.The vertebrate's brain is nowadays seen as an temporary endpoint referring to the evolution of the nervous system as it coordinates complex behaviours and processes sensory impressions highly centralised. It is therefore the main place for processing all kinds of information that are important for surviving.Next to vertebrates squids do also have a highly complex brain that enables them to have certain skills. That is why the central departement of the nervous system of spineless animals, like those of annelids and insects, is also called a brain. According to brain type one can also speak of cerebral ganglia or supraesophagial ganglia.The human brain is the best examined brain in the animal world.
