Orchectomy in domestic animals is commonly performed to prevent overpopulation of the community by unwanted animals, to reduce or prevent manifestations of sexual behaviour such as territorial behaviour or aggression, to reduce consequences of sexual behaviour that may make animal husbandry more difficult or to prevent certain diseases such as prostate disease and testicular cancer in male dogs.
