Perforative appendicitis

Perforative appendicitis Perforated appendix, 18cm in length, top with perforation overlied gall bladder and impressed as acute gall. Diffuse peritonitis was seen in this patient. Appendicitis can be caused by

a) enterobacteria found in the microflora of the gut (e.g. in conditions like luminal stenosis caused by enteroliths or adhesions)

b) bacteria infiltrating the appendix via blood circulation
