Onychomykosis is an infection of the toe nails caused my pathogenic fungi. Toe nails are up to four times more likely to be infected than finger nails. If left untreated, onychomycosis can lead to complete destruction of the nails affected.
Onychomycosis is relatively common (endemic in approximately 15% of the German population) and persistent. At least every second nail fungus is being preceded by a fungal infection of the foot (tinea pedis).
