Strongly schematic representation of the extension of an individual segment of the spinal cord.
The roots coming from the spinal segment, Radix anterior (ventral root = anterior root) and Radix posterior (dorsal root = posterior root), unite in the spinal nerve (Nervus spinalis).
One can see the spinal ganglion in front of the ingression to the posterior root with the sensitive pseudo-unipolar nerve cells, and the posterior division which innervates the paraspinal muscles of the torso and the skin of the back.
In the area of the marrow, one can see the anterior column and the posterior column, and the anterior and posterior fissure.
Lateral to it, the lateral column is marked.
