Gastric resection, Billroth I is the easiest one. Because of its complications, we only use it for exceptional cases or in palliative care for extensive tumors.
Procedure The distal 2/3 of the stomach are resected; an anastomosis is being performed between the gastric stump and the duodenum stump (end-to-end or side-to-end; gastroduodenostomy). The passage of the nourishments is in this way maintained by the duodenum.
Complications
Besides a dumping syndrom being a general complication, in the Billroth-I-resection an intolerably high reflux of bile in the stomach and oesophagus develops. Thus, a continuous gastroduodenal peptic ulcer disease and a reflux disease develops.
