Cause: nicotine abuse
Acne inversa is a chronic skin disease. The underlying cause is an inflammation of the sebaceous glands and the outer root sheath of the terminal hair follicles.
Since the cause of this disease was mistakenly thought to be a sole inflammation of the apocrine sweat glands, the term hidradenitis suppurativa is still circulating in the medical literature (and the ICD 10).
ICD10-Code: L73.2
