The tibia head fracture often occurs after a trauma. Usually these patients fall from a great height on their legs. In that way, a tremendous force of compression along the longitudinal axis of femur and tibia can occur, wheras the femur condyles compress the tibia head and thus scatter the tibia edgewise. Another cause can be also a direct trauma on the knee joint itself , for example after a severe car accident when colliding with the dashboard.
