Staging of severity (Shea 1975)
Grade I:
Erythema without skin damage, but does not disappear after relieving the pressure.
Grade II:
Skin damage, detachment of the epithelial layer (blister).
Grade III:
All tissue layers damaged. Deep necrosis.
Grade IV:
Involvement of the bone, risk of developing osteomyelitis.
