Haemophilus influenzae smear
Haemophilus influenzae can be proved by demonstration of antigenes and cultivation, amongst others. Basically, all inflammatory secretions such as liquor, blood, sputum, pus, or conjunctival smears can serve as exam material.
For cultivation, cooked blood agar is used, which is porvided with special additions (e.g. brain-heart-bouillon). When Haemophilus influenzae is growing together with Staphylococcus aureus, the charactaristic foster-mum's phenomenom will show.
The antigene proof can be made via agglutination test, with the aid of the proof of specific antibodies, serological mapping of certain types of capsules will be successful.
