Eamination materil appropriate for cultivation and diagnostics are pus, smears of skin, eyes and ears, bronchial secretions, and blood. Cultivation is done with special MacConkey-Agar or liquid culture media. The typical pigmentation of the germ, the characteristic smell and the positive oxidase test form the diagnostic criteria
Just from clinical findings, a suspected diagnosis can be formed when there is green-blueish pus and the lime-blossom-like smell.
