Diagnosis: 74-year old patient with renal subinfarctDescription: The upper kidney is normal. The kidney beneath is clearly smaller and the renal parenchyma shows a sharply confined sunken area with a very finely granulated surface (=subinfarct).Comment: As a result of the stenosing vascular alteration, a focal ischemic atrophy of the cortex occurs which is characterised by a tubular atrophy and an interstitial fibrosis.
