Cancer centres in Germany - In order to be able to improve and ensure the quality of supply for cancer patients, the German Cancer Society (Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft, DKG) offers a certification process for clinics specialized in oncology. Health institutions receive the certification when they adhere to a strict catalogue of conditions. This is to make sure that a supply of a hgh level of quality and a network of different specialists, that is continuously documented and evaluated, is available for cancer patients. For some types of cancer, specialized profiles of requirements and certification systems have been developed. The orientation of the cancer centres for the different specialties allows the patients to get the best treatment possible for thier disease. So, in Germany, there are 257 breast, 239 colon, 85 prostate, 36 skin, 29 lung, 35 pancreas and 70 gynecological cancer centres.
